Vaticinium de restitutione Constantinopoleos (BHG 1875b): Edition and translation of a post-Byzantine prophecy

The article provides a critical edition of hitherto unedited post-Byzantine prophecy that may be called the Vaticinium de restitutione Constantinopoleos. text comes down in two recensions, which are contained twelve manuscripts. is supplemented with an English translation and commentary discusses title, date composition, content, main sources, significance text. It argued was originally composed early 1570s response to Ottoman conquest Cyprus. Furthermore, it shown motif saviour-emperor, central prophecy, responds developments sixteenth-century Mediterranean apocalypticism.
